Frequently asked questions
How does College Football Matchups predict a game?
Every FBS team gets an offense and a defense rating built from this season's games and adjusted for the strength of each opponent. We then play the matchup 10,000 times, drive by drive. The win probability is the share of those games each team wins, and the projected score is the average score.
How accurate are the predictions?
They are estimates, not guarantees, and upsets happen. In the model, a team favored by 7 points wins about 68% of the time and a 14-point favorite about 82%. Early in the season, with only a few games played, the ratings are less certain.
What does the luck slider do?
Luck sets how much game-day chaos the simulation allows: turnovers, big penalties and odd bounces that can swing a game either way. Each matchup starts at a level based on both teams' turnovers and penalty yards this season. More luck means more upsets; it never changes which team is favored.
Can I pick any two teams?
Yes. Choose any two FBS teams, set the game at either team's stadium or a neutral site, and see the win probability, projected score and where each side has the edge.
How often is the data updated?
Every day. Scores, team stats and player stats are refreshed each morning, and the ratings and projections are recalculated from the new results.
